Science & Innovation Competition for Transition Year Students

🧠 Competition Details
- Theme: Innovative Solutions linked to Agriculture
- Objective: Inspire TY students to explore scientific research and create innovative solutions that enhance agricultural practices.
- Eligibility: Open to all Transition Year students in Munster.

📝 How to Enter, Entry Fee & Submission
Step 1: Submit Your Entry
Complete the competition application form via www.corksummershow.com/enter-classes on or before 20th February 2026.
When completing the form:
- Register under the team lead’s name (all other student names must be included in the Research Report).
- Provide the school’s bank details for any payments or refunds.

Entry Fees: Individual or Team Entry: €20 (Max up to 3 students from the same school)
Step 2: Submit Your Research Report
Email your Research Report (maximum 3,000 words, up to 5MB) and a 2-minute video (in MP4 format, up to 2GB) explaining your project to info@corksummershow.com. (Use WeTransfer.com to send your report and video files. In ‘Title’ please use the subject line: “TY Research Project”.)
All submissions must be received by COB on 20th February 2026.
🌟 Competition Process & Terms 🏆
Initial Judging: All entries will be carefully reviewed, and the top five finalists will be notified by 27th March 2026.
Final Presentations: Finalists will present their projects at the Science & Innovation Stand during the Cork Summer Show 2026. Each finalist will have a 10-minute slot to present and answer questions from the judging panel.
Display Materials: Bring your project to life! Finalists may present their research through a poster (maximum A0 size) and/or a creative display. A table and poster board will be provided.
Eligibility: Open to Transition Year students in Munster (2025/2026). Projects must be original; AI-generated content is not allowed. Each project must include a research component that demonstrates you’re thinking and investigation.
Judging Criteria: Projects will be assessed on creativity, feasibility, research quality, and potential impact.
Winner Announcement: Winners will be revealed during the Cork Summer Show weekend 2026, with prizes awarded to the winning school and team/individual, as well as various prizes for other outstanding finalists.
🔬 Research
Choose a challenge or problem in agriculture and carry out research.
Possible topics include but not confined to:
- Sustainable farming practices 🌿
- New agricultural technologies ⚙️
- Food and nutrition 🍎
- Innovative solutions to common farming challenges 🚜
💡 Your proposed solution should be detailed in your Research Report, which should include:
- Details – all student names, School Name, Lead teacher Name.
- Introduction – Describe your challenge or problem
- Research Summary – Outline the research you carried out
- Proposed Solution – Explain your innovative idea and how it could work in real life
- Expected Impact – Describe the potential benefits and impact on agriculture

- Winning School: €750 plus Winning Team/Individual: €250.
