Tug of War Ireland Championship Event at Cork Summer Show 2024

Cork Summer Show is delighted to announce that Tug of War Ireland will host a championship event at this year’s show.
Teams will be pitted against each other in a test of strength in one of the most ancient games in the world.

The origins of Tug of War stretch deep into history, with records of the sport being played in Ancient Greece, India, Egypt, and China, extending into antiquity. There are even accounts from China describing Tug of War being practiced as far back as 10,000 years ago.

Tug of War is not just a measure of strength but also demands skill, technique, and commitment. Competitors in outdoor Tug of War use specially crafted boots featuring steel-plated heels to enhance their grip on the terrain. Some competitors choose army or skiing boots for their excellent ankle support.

Come along and check out this exciting sport and if you would like more information, representatives of TOWI will be on hand.
